Heavy Rains Keep Six Flags Magic Mountain Closed

By on 12/19/2010

This is the second day in a row that Six Flags Magic Mountain has not opened due to rain. The storm that moved over Los Angeles yesterday continues to dump rain over the entire region. I live only a couple of miles from the park and it has not stopped raining all day. It has varied from a light rain to an absolute downpour, but it has never let up. The bad news is that they are predicting even worse rains over the next couple of days.

In reading through some of the comments on Six Flags’ Facebook page, people aren’t very happy about the park being closed just because of rain. Is it truly a safety issue or an excuse for Six Flags to save some money? Personally, with how heavy then rains have been, I think they’re making the right call. I honestly don’t think they’d get that many people in the park with this weather and it’s better to be safe than sorry. However, as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, they could probably still open for business and make some money if they only had more entertainment to offer indoors.

The park was supposed to be open Saturday through Thursday, then closed on Friday and Saturday for Christmas. However, the weather folks are calling for continued and worsening rains through Thursday, so it’s not looking good that they’ll be open at all before Christmas. On a related note, I’m hearing that this will be the first time in many years that SFMM has closed on Christmas Eve and nobody seems to know why. Some are speculating that SFMM just wants their employees to be able to have the time off for the holiday, while others are saying that it’s just another excuse for them to save some more money. What are your thoughts?
