Six Flags Magic Mountain Green Lantern Construction Update

By on 01/17/2011

A quick trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain this past weekend showed some signs of progress on the upcoming Green Lantern coaster. As most of you are probably already aware, there is a lot of excitement over this particular project. Not only is it one of two new coasters being added to the park this year, but it’s also an Intamin ZacSpin coaster. It’s the very first of its kind to be installed in the United States and only the fourth in the world. Then following photos show where it is being installed.

This first shot shows the statue that used to reside right behind the Pizza Vector in the Movie District, that was in a round, concrete planter. It was a very quiet, shaded area and a perfect place to eat and relax. They even pumped in the sounds of birds chirping. The woman isn’t actually wearing a tie. It was a remnant of a bloody cloth left over from Halloween:

This next shot shows what that same planter looks like now. You can see where the statue was standing, as well as the light that lite it up and the trees that were behind it. The statue has been spotted behind the park. If you look to your right as you are climbing the lift hill on Apocalypse, you will see it down below. Great shot of the back of Tidal Wave from here:

It’s also hard not to notice all of that plush greenery that was behind it is also gone, revealing some old building facades that haven’t been visible to the typical park guest in quite some time:

I’m not quite sure what this area once was. Judging by the pathways, I’m guessing it was either a queue for a ride or perhaps an exit path. If anyone knows, please drop me a comment and let me know. I’m very interested in the history of the park:

More of the clearing being done:

You saw the back of Tidal Wave in the above shot. As you pan to the right, you can see how close to Batman: The Ride this is being installed:

I’m not sure why, but I know there are lots of people that enjoy seeing the markers being placed for a new ride, so here you go:

I’ll be sure to post more updates on the construction as I get them.

I think that the area in question was involved with the ride FreeFall was? I know they took it out for Riddler’s Revenge, but i am fairly certain that FreeFall was there. Let me know if you have any confirmation.

This was Batman the ride’s queue line. Back in 1994 when the ride was introduced the queue line was extremely long cause it was necesary; time pased and all that queue line wasn’t necesary as the ride dind’t had the demand it had back in the 90’s
