New Superman Cars On Both Tracks at Six Flags Magic Mountain

By on 01/31/2011

As you can see from the following photo, there is now a new car located on both tracks of Superman: Escape from Krypton at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

There was a lot of excitement when Superman: The Escape was closed last fall for refurbishment, and anticipation has been growing higher as we get closer to the re-launch date of March 19th. In addition to the new name, the ride has also been given a new paint job from top down in the traditional Superman colors of red, blue, and yellow, as well as brand new cars that will transport riders backwards.

We got our first glimpse of the new car when it was spotted being tested on the left track a couple of weeks ago. The following week, one of the old cars was spotted (here) being tested on the right track. That fueled some of the speculation that there was only one new car and that guests would have the choice of riding backwards on a new car or forwards on an old car. However, park management has since confirmed that the ride will re-open with two new cars, both travelling backwards. There is a chance that after the ride has been open for a few months, and/or ridership starts to dwindle back down, that the park will offer the choice of riding forwards or backwards by using one new car and one old car on each track.

Here is a picture that was taken yesterday clearly showing a new car on each track. The car on the left track is the pure blue car that we have seen in testing. The car on the right track is showing some spots of red under a tarp that has been taped over the entire nose of the car. This could indicate that this car already has the graphics package/theme applied to it.
