DC Universe Update At Six Flags Magic Mountain

By on May 13, 2011

Time to check in with what’s going on with the transformation of the old Gotham City Backlot to DC Universe at Six Flags Magic Mountain. As you can see from this first photo, taken from the Sky Tower, there has been a giant plastic sheet installed behind the arch to hide the center piece that was removed from Grinder Gearworks:

Looking from the ground level, you really can’t see what’s behind it:

However, peeking around the side of the plastic sheet reveals what is really going on. They have sandblasted the ride to remove the old paint, presumably to apply a new paint scheme to go with the ride’s new theme of Wonder Woman’s Magic Lasso:

Other than the old Grinder Gearworks sign being removed, not much has happened to the building itself yet:

It looks like the demolition/construction work on the area’s entry arch has been completed and it’s either gotten a fresh coat of paint or primer:

I’m glad they took my advice and put something up on the construction walls. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it’s better than nothing. I still don’t understand where that shade of blue came from. Perhaps they had a bunch left over from another project:

The old Atom Smasher ride is getting some fresh paint or primer in preparation for its re-theme into The Flash:

Doesn’t look like any modifications have been made to that building:

From the Sky Tower, you can see that lots of work is being done on the old Axis store to convert it to the new DC Universe store. The Axis sign is gone and it looks like they may be constructing a new facade across the top of the store:

This is the best I could make out on the DC Universe store from the ground. I tried peeking through the Atom Smasher ride, but you can’t really see anything:

I thought this was a little amusing. There was a Southern California Edison (electric company) truck parked in front of the Green Lantern installation area, so I assumed they must have been working on the electrical, or perhaps performing an inspection. Behind it was their ambulance. I’m guessing that they have it close to the action just in case something happens. Better to be safe than sorry:

it so wierd to see the old gotham city, it looks so ugly and run down. I know thats what it was supposed to look like, but people that dont understand the comics would think that this is just a poor kept part of the park. The new DC Universe is so much better, glad they changed it
