Fun Facts: Hidden Nautical Names
Many theme parks have secret elements blended into the decor or themeing that have a special meaning to insider park employees, but appear to simply be a part of the theme to a park guest. For example, all of the second-story windows along Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland have names painted on them, intended to look like the proprietors of a fictional business that resides in that building. In reality, these are all actual people who have been immortalized for their contributions in making Disneyland what it is today. Did you know Six Flags Magic Mountain has similar insider secrets?
How many of you have seen these before, hanging on the front of Tidal Wave:
Most people walk past these and see them as whimsical nautical pieces that are a part of the theme for the Tidal Wave ride. While that is true, each one of these also represents a park employee. For example, The red and white pieces say ‘JAY’, as in Jay Thomas, the former Park President of Six Flags Magic Mountain. Think of each piece as being the alphabet, with ‘A’ at the top and ‘Z’ at the bottom. The top color comes down to where the letter it represents would be located in the alphabet. Since ‘A’ is the first letter in the alphabet, the middle piece of ‘JAY’ is solid red. Since ‘Y’ is almost at the end on the alphabet, there is just a sliver of red at the very bottom. See how what works? I’ll give you one more: the yellow and white markers spell ‘NEAL’, as in Neal Thurman, the Director of Operations. Can you guess the others?
I’ve actually known about this for quite some time, however I did not know there were others in the park as well. As I was raoming around recently, I spotted these on the side of the Waterfront Commissary:
How many of these can you name? It’s kind of hard unless it’s a really common name or you know a lot of the main park employees:

You are correct. I’m guessing it’s Tim Burkhart, the General Manager of the park.

I never knew this. Now I’ll be looking out for these and trying to guess who they belong to.
