Six Flags Magic Mountain Trip Report For 03 May 2012

By on 05/04/2012

This is a photo trip report for Six Flags Magic Mountain from Thursday, May 3, 2012.

As I was pulling into the park, there was a stream of about 10 empty school buses making their way out of the park. I was a little concerned that the park might be crowded if it was some sort of a multi-school outing, but it wasn’t. In fact, the entire park was very empty. There were several schools there for the day, but with not very many general admission folks to speak of, there were no crowds. I saw several booths lined up in front of the fountain in the Six Flags Plaza:

Upon closer inspection, they were colleges passing out info to the high school kids:

I saw this sign and wished I knew who it was for. Sounds right up my alley:

In case you missed my update yesterday, the track is finally starting to be attached to the Superman tower for the upcoming Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom ride:

This is a close-up of some of the track being installed. For a more detailed account on the track being installed, please refer to my update found here:

I’m not sure why, but the “What the Fried?” sign has been removed:

It looks like they are starting to build the dance stage in the X2 plaza for the upcoming round of Grad Nite parties. The first one to use this stage is scheduled for May 17th:

A former employee pointed this out this next tidbit in my profile on the Log Jammer (here). The upper portion of the Log Jammer building was used to store the logs. The panel you see here is actually a sliding door and is how they would get the logs in and out of the building/ride. If you look all the way over on the righthand side, there is a gap where you can see inside the building. I had no idea:

As I was walking down the Goliath exit ramp, I glanced up through one of the window openings to look at the train heading up the hill and saw something I never noticed before. It looks like the people who built the queue building left a little memory of themselves in the stucco. This is the top of the building where park guests don’t go, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a lot more names up there:

I noticed a giant tarp show up a couple of weeks ago on the Batman Action Theatre, most likely due to the heavy rains we’ve gotten. I’m not sure what they’re protecting on the other side, but now there appears to be a second tarp on the right. Or, perhaps it’s the same tarp that ripped in half? Either way, it looks bad and should be dealt with. In fact, the entire theatre needs something done with it. It’s a shame they have an arena like this and can’t come up with a way to use it besides a Fright Fest walk through maze:

I thought this was pretty cool. I spotted an employee with the same name as me, except it was spelled in a very unique way; Kirt as opposed to Kurt. For getting such a strange request from me to take a picture of it, he was very gracious. Thank you, Kirt! Now, if I can just find a badge with the name Kurt to snap a picture of:

It was nice to see Porky Pig out in the park. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him make an appearance outside of media day events:

It’s graduation time and the park’s annual Grad Nites are upon us. If you think your school should be involved with this event, here’s what you need to know:

I went to the above web site and was surprised to be redirected to a 2013 Grad Nite page:

After I read through it, and watched the video, I realized that it’s almost too late to apply for the 2012 events so they are already advertising for next year. Oh, and if you watch the video, take note that it shows the lovely pink and yellow X, before it was X2, and only one of the flame throwers was working. Time to get some new video footage.

    Thanks Kurt!!!

Interesting info on the log Jammer station, I can’t wait to see how they re use the building for the 2013 coaster.

They are wasting no time on LL:DOD, just looking at the track on the side of S:EFK has me terrified I don’t even want to think about actually being on it lol.

I went out to the park on Wednesday and found the place to be almost deserted. When I walked past what was “What The Fried?” I did notice that the sign was gone and wondered what was going on. I went over to look at a menu, but didn’t see one posted. Isn’t that where the Dole Whips are going to be sold, as well as the gourmet hot dogs? Also while I was there, I took a walk to the far end of the seating area, out to where the lake used to be. From there, I got a good look at the entire former Log Jammer area. Despite having my phone, I didn’t take any pictures, though I probably could have taken a good panoramic shot. Also, I saw that the Log Jammer sign has been removed from the front of the building. It was still up the last time I was there.

It was a harrowing two-minute wait for Gold Rusher, but I wanted to ride it to see how it is without passing under the log flume twice. A little strange for someone who’s ridden it for 40 years with the flume overhead.

I also noticed that the Metro track has been removed from the backside of the park–at least the part between the station near Scrambler and the west edge of the tunnel. The part along the hillside and over Bugs Bunny World is still there, though, but I’d imagine not for long.

Is the loop of Metro track around Riddler’s Revenge still there?

Nice trip report Kurt. Thank you so much for the updates on LL:DOD. By the way, have you heard that Magic Mountain is supposed to reclaim the coaster crown? Its on the L.A times. Cedar Fair is demolishing one of its coasters for some show kinda like the world of color at dysneland’s california adventure…. Six Flags Magic Mountain…. Don’t let me down!! 😀

Yah, I tweeted about that not long after Cedar Point made the announcement the other day.
