Live From Lex Luthor Media Preview

By on 07/06/2012

I arrived at Six Flags Magic Mountain at 4:30 am this morning as part of the ACE contingency asked to come fill the Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom seats for the morning newscasts. These are various live shots leading up to the main media event at 11:00 am.

It was very dark and foggy when we first arrived:

The sun hasn’t even come out and the news media is already setup and rolling tape:

I just got off my ninth ride. I shared a gondola with Tim Burkhart who was doing a live, on-ride tv interview:

Stickers that say Six Flags have been added to the restraints. I suspect they won’t last long:

Confirmed – with one large cable drum, both sides will always go up together. Well, at least the catch cars:

I just took my 13th ride. Still loving it:

    Kurt,
I have to ask. Is it fun, scary as hell, a mixture of both? I’ll admit I was hesitant watching the animations, and once I saw the new restraints I was pretty much saying hell no to riding it.

I thinks it’s a blast! A little scary at first, due to the height, but it’s really fun. I’ve been on it 14 times so far and was selected to be on the ceremonial first drop.

    Hey Kurt!

Do the lap bars hurt at all? Because these are very similar to Sky Rush’s Lapbars.

Absolutely not. No discomfort at all. I like them a lot.

I found it so epic how they had the gondolas wait until Superman got to the top and they both dropped at the same time! I can’t wait for tomorrow

Congrats Kurt, what an Honor, and this should show how hard work can pay off. Well deserved, and glad you got to share in the action, as you have dedicated your time, effort, gas, and covered more of this ride, than any other source I have seen, or heard of.

I just saw you commented how the ride was, so I wont even ask, but I must ask, is it scariest sitting on the ends and how was the view from 390+ feet? Cant wait to ride. Thanks for everything and all your updates. Look foward to more of these updates again, especially for the New ride in 2013.

I actually preferred the ends. I experienced all four of them today. They provide a much better view than being in the middle. The one on the side with the Superman track facing the park entrance is my absolute favorite seat.

Congrats, Kurt! That was a wonderfully well-deserved honor for you. And it was a fun event, what with one of the Los Angeles Kings players there, and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor from “Smallville”) beginning his speech with revealing the step stool Bonnie Rabjohn needed to be as tall as the podium, and also saying, “Yes, I have hair.” Loved it!
