Live Colossus Farewell Party with ALT 98.7 FM

By on 07/26/2014

Tonight is the Colossus farewell party at Six Flags Magic Mountain, hosted by ALT 98.7 FM. I’m going to attempt to do some live blogging from the event. It runs from 11:00 pm to 3:00 am. I don’t do live blogging very often, so please bear with me.

9:30 pm: Just arrived at the park for a few rides before it closes.

Waiting in line for an evening ride on Ninja with Gregg (@Park_Journey), Coaster Matt, and Rose:

10:10 pm: The park is now officially closed and there is a mass exodus at the main gate:

10:50 pm: Getting ready to go back through security:

Starting to get a lot of people show up:

I got my last ride on the big woodie:

We’ve got it all to ourselves! Muwahaha:

We’ve got four full hours of this:

We also have Scream! all to ourselves tonight! Two trains, no waiting:

ALT 98.7 FM is co-hosting the event. They have a booth setup and are handing out t-shirts and other goodies to their listeners who won tickets to the event:

Me, Gregg, Matt, and Rose on the front row of Scream!. Don’t worry, the ride op was much better at operating Scream! than he was operating my cell phone. 😉 :

This is me posing in front of Colossus one last time:

After getting our fill of rides on Colossus and Scream!, we decided to head out just after 1:00 am. There wasn’t anything else going on and a couple of us have to get up early. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have my picture taken in front of an empty Goliath plaza at night:

Walking around an empty amusement park at 1:00 in the morning, I kept expecting to have a Scooby Doo villain jump out at me:

One final shot of the entrance on the way out of the park:

I’d like to thank both Six Flags Magic Mountain and ALT 98.7 FM for hosting this event. Even though I didn’t get to meet, or even see, Woody from ALT 98.7, I still had a fun time hanging out with friends and getting some final rides in on Colossus!

Glad you guys had fun. I’ve always wanted to be at SFMM at 2 or 3 in the morning, but just wasn’t up for this. But I have been there at 4 in the morning for a media event or two, so it’s kind of the same…

Did Colossus have two trains? I know it only had one on Friday and it looked like something major was going on with the other one.

Yes, they were running both the red and black Colossus trains for us. Scream was running two trains as well.

We’re they using both tracks? Standard forward (not backwards) right?

They were using the two standard forward-facing Morgan trains, both on the same side of the track. The second side hasn’t operated for years now.

Surprisingly, when I went in June of 2013, I saw both sides testing, but I don’t know if it ran.

Nope. They might have been thinking of opening that side back up, but they never did.

How many times did you ride Colossus? How many times did you ride Scream?
