Six Flags Magic Mountain Trip Report For 13 Mar 2016

By on 03/17/2016

I got so busy at work this week that I forgot to post my Six Flags Magic Mountain trip report from this past weekend. I did post my update from The New Revolution, but here’s everything else that I noticed had changed this past week. These photos were all taken on March 13, 2016.

As soon as you pass through the main gate, you’ll notice the first new change. What was known as Suzette’s Bakery is now known as World Famous Funnel Cake Factory, and it got a brand new awning all across the front:

I’m not sure they’re done with it yet as there are still some remnants of Suzette’s Bakery hanging around:

I thought we were told that the inside was going to get a remodel as well, but it looks the same to me. Perhaps that it is something else that is still pending:

What was known as the Flags gift shop has completed its transformation into the Six Flags Emporium and was celebrating the big Grand Opening:

The inside was completely gutted and rebuilt, including a brand new cashier counter:

This is the largest retail space in the entire Six Flags chain and it shows. The new layout is nice because you can see across the entire store now:

The secondary cashier counter that was located by the entrance in the corner is gone, making way for even more merchandising space:

The Cyber Cáfè is now known as the Plaza Cafe and has a new sign. Perhaps it’s just me, but the new sign looks really small on the building for some reason:

Although the outside got a new sign and fresh paint, the inside wasn’t touched:

The transformation of the Orient Express into the Helpful Honda Express looks complete and it’s really, REALLY blue:

This is obviously an advertising deal and won’t last forever, but I believe they said it was going to be around until at least the end of the year/season:

The upper station has been painted all blue as well:

The new sign for the Grand Carousel has been hung, at least the back of it, and it looks a bit different. I really hope they aren’t going to just put a big sticker on the front of that and call it good. A classic carousel like this, that’s over 100 years old (see complete history here), should have a hand made sign worthy of its heritage:

The refurbished horses are starting to be reinstalled on the ride:

Man down…MAN DOWN!!

Work is also being done on the landscaping around the front of the ride:

The scenery along the top is currently blank. In previous updates, we saw they were experimenting with both hand painting new scenes and possibly using pre-printed graphics here. Time will tell what they eventually decide to do:

The smaller scenes just under the big ones have been completed. They decided to go with an Americana theme, with scenes depicting things such as baseball, old hot rods, and good old fashioned American pie:

What I thought was going to be a new style of directional sign in front of The New Revolution turned out to be just another advertising sign:

I couldn’t help but notice how many people were in line for Viper. It’s been forever since I’ve seen the bottom queue filling up. I assumed they were holding people at the stairs, but I could see lots of people in the upper queue as well:

ChopSix, the new Asian cuisine restaurant that replaced Panda Express, has finally opened to the public:

I stopped by for lunch at 12:15 pm, when this pic was taken, and there was no line at all. I came back for a snack around 2:00 pm and the line was backed up halfway to Viper:

The menu signs are temporary. The electrical outlets they are hanging from will eventually feed monitors that will serve as digital menu boards:

If you look carefully on the menu above, every single item except the Wonton Tacos are on the season dining pass. This is a big change from Panda, where nothing was on the dining pass, and a welcome one in my book.

That’s it for this update. Thanks for reading!  If you like this site, please use the social media buttons below to help me spread the word with your friends. You can also follow me on FacebookTwitter, and/or Instagram.

It seems the “lands” of the park have all pretty much disappeared. I think that Baja Ridge sign was the last of them to exist.

Growing up, one thing I really liked about Magic Mountain is that it had distinguished areas that had different themes throughout. Baja Ridge, Colossus County Fair, Psyclone Bay, Samurai Summit, the list goes on. Really cool themes that made you feel like you were in a different environment as you navigated the park.

It seems like a lot of the upgrades are much the same Six Flags style theming throughout, which is a trend through every park.

Too bad. Maybe it’s not a big deal to the guests nowadays, but I will miss it.

Some of the old lands are slowly disappearing, but they haven’t given up on them. New ones keep emerging each year as they rejuvenate different areas of the park. DC Universe, Full Throttle Plaza, Bugs Bunny World, and Screampunk District have all gotten makeovers in recent years. The entire front if the park got a makeover this year with the refurb of Revolution. It will all have an Americana theme, but I’m not sure there’s an official name for it.

I agree.. I will miss it, but I’m very pleased with the efforts the Chain has made with SFMM… could be a whole lot worse, and I remember when it was..
