Justice League: Battle for Metropolis Coming To Six Flags Magic Mountain

By on 09/01/2016

Six Flags Magic Mountain today announced that a Justice League: Battle for Metropolis (JL:BFM) dark ride will be coming to the park for the 2017 season. However, unlike the existing JL:BFM rides that have taken Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis by storm, this one is the next generation version that will feature a spectacular new finale, new game targets and the introduction of one of DC’s hottest Super-Villains, Harley Quinn!

Slated to open in Spring 2017, riders will become members of the JUSTICE LEAGUE Reserve Team in a multi-sensory four minute game experience with wind, fire, fog and special effects as they battle alongside the iconic Super Heroes, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Green Lantern to save the city of Metropolis from Lex Luthor, The Joker and his henchmen. Also wreaking havoc will be Harley Quinn, The Joker’s favorite sidekick.

This cutting-edge attraction brings riders into the DC Universe featuring interactive content in one of the first-ever virtual 360-degree loops on an attraction, and interactive 180-degree toroidal screens that allow riders to experience state-of-the-art gaming while riding in six-passenger pitch and roll motion-based vehicles synced to custom action- packed scenes featuring the most iconic DC characters.

“Six Flags Magic Mountain is thrilled to once again ‘up the ante’ in Southern California’s theme park mecca and introduce one of the most state-of-the-art, innovative motion-based attraction in the world – the next generation of Six Flags award-winning JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis. There is nothing like this anywhere in the world where riders are actually playing an interactive game while riding an action-packed high-intensity attraction. Leveraging the greatest Super Hero brands of all time, Batman and Superman, JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis is like a video game come to life – an immersive, multi-sensory experience with the most sophisticated technology available that is sure to deliver an unprecedented experience to thrill seekers of all ages.” – Bonnie Sherman Weber, Six Flags Magic Mountain park president

Designed and built by Sally Corporation, the Jacksonville, Florida-based dark ride specialists, and Alterface Projects, the video interactive systems experts, the climactic interactive battle scenes between the Super Heroes and Super Villains include a multitude of special effects and thrilling ride experiences as guests shoot targets and score points against their friends and family while traveling on a high speed chase through the streets of Metropolis. Falling from a bridge, looping through Green Lantern’s construct and battling the Lex Bots in an underground subway station are all part of the interactive content action.

Here are some of the features of the new Justice League: Battle for Metropolis:

  • A 23,624 square foot HALL OF JUSTICE to house the full-sensory thrill ride;
  • A 4D ride experience with wind, fire, mist, fog and special effects;
  • Life-like animatronic characters including Harley Quinn, Cyborg, The Joker and his Henchmen, and Lex Bots;
  • A dramatic fight as the JUSTICE LEAGUE Reserve Team travels through laughing gas and flames in 10 high intensity scenes;
  • One of the first-ever virtual loops, giving riders the feeling of going head over heels;
  • High-definition 3D animation shown on the first-ever, 180-degree interactive toroidal screens that fully immerses riders into the city of Metropolis;
  • State-of-the-art Gaming elements that put the riders into the interactive content where they compete with friends and family;
  • 6-passenger pitch and roll motion-based vehicles with multi-degrees-of-freedom to transport riders through all the exciting twists and turns without limitations, and
  • Two pre-show rooms featuring larger-than-life interactive characters

This attraction will sit where the outdoor theater that housed the massive outdoor Fright Fest maze Aftermath was located. They have completely removed the old amphitheater and are building the attraction from the ground up. That area of the park was formerly known as The Movie District, although that name means very little today and not many people even know that. The entire area will be re-themed as the city of Metropolis, known to many as the home of Clark Kent/Superman.

The existing attractions in that area today include The Riddler’s Revenge, Tidal Wave, a rock wall, and BJ’s Smokehouse BBQ food location. Although we don’t know exactly what it means yet, the re-theme will affect the surrounding attractions, food and retail locations, and will add new entertainment to the area as well.

I was recently at Six Flags St. Louis and took several rides on Justice League: Battle for Metropolis. The ride was extremely well themed and had ice cold air conditioning, which is something that will definitely be appreciated during the hot summer months at this park. I also really enjoyed the ride itself, so I can’t wait to try out the next generation version of it. Here is a photo of me killing the competition (Sondra and Kris), during one of our rides in St. Louis:

Here is a teaser video the park has prepared for this ride:

    FINALLY, the park gets a dark ride. It’ll be nice to have this as an option on those brutally hot summer days.

    Wow! This is so exciting. I’m really glad they are ridding of the name The Movie District.. It really never made any sense to me. I’m just glad they are re-themeing that whole area. They should re-name Tidal Wave as well because it will definitely be out of place in between the DC Universe and Metropolis. It should be something related to Aquaman. That’s for the update. Cant wait!!

    Since the ride will be indoors, it will make for some uninteresting constructing updates 🙁

    Stop being a douche-bag. That comment is uncalled for.

      Thanks, Scott. Totally uncalled for and I just deleted it.

    How will you do construction updates since most of it will be inside like Phil stated?

    No RMC makeovers for wood coasters for 2017, and no Super Loop flat rides either. Other than Magic Mountain, I know Great Adventure and Over Georgia will be getting Battle for Metropolis as well. 3 more S&S 4D Free Fly coasters (The Joker) will be going to Great America, New England, and Over Texas. America is getting a SkyScreamer ride, but it’ll be called Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth. Discovery Kingdom is also getting a Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth, in the form of a Zamperla Frisbee. St. Louis is getting Spinsanity, a Zamperla Disk’O. Just to name a few. Nothing real spectacular.
