Knott’s Merry Farm Brings Christmas to the Old West

By on 11/28/2016

It’s Christmas time again, and that means that Knott’s Berry Farm transforms into a very festive Knott’s Merry Farm! There’s lots to see and do around the farm during the holidays, and as you’ll see, there’s something for everyone.

We went to experience Knott’s Merry Farm on opening day, but the weather wasn’t very cooperative and it rained on us most of the day. However, we didn’t let that dampen our spirits and we still had a lot of fun:

The highlight of any good holiday event is the Christmas tree, and Knott’s Merry Farm is no exception. They have a great tree in Calico Park that gets lit every night at 5:00 pm:

Every Christmas, the Calico Railroad train gets dressed up in a festive holiday motif:

There are lot of Christmas decorations to be found throughout the park:

Beware of swindlers selling worthless trinkets on the street:

More holiday decorations in the Boardwalk area of the park:

Be sure to stop and listen to the hand bell carolers if you get the chance:

Be sure to wander the streets of Ghost Town and visit all of the unique vendors that make up the Christmas Crafts Village.

As the rain started to come down harder, we ducked inside the old school house to take shelter. To our surprise, it had been decorated as well:

Santa’s Christmas Cabin, inside the Wilderness Dance Hall, is the place to go to experience lots of delicious holiday treats. You’ll find Santa’s homemade cookies, egg nog, hot chocolate, seasonal pastries, roasted nuts, and seasonal beer/wine tastings:

You can even get your picture taken with Santa Claus himself:

There are some really cool holiday decorations all over the park:

The Calico Saloon Christmas Show is fun and worth a watch:

One of the most popular events during Knott’s Merry Farm each year is the ice show in the Charles M. Schulz Theatre. This year it’s called the Merry Christmas, Snoopy! Ice Show:

Unfortunately, due to the rain, we weren’t able to experience everything we had hoped to during our visit. Some other things to see and do during Knott’s Merry Farm include:

  • A PEANUTS Guide to Christmas – Camp Snoopy Theatre
  • A Christmas Carol/The Gift of the Magi – Bird Cage Theatre
  • Snow and Glow – Ghost Town Main Street & Schoolhouse Road
  • It’s the Merriest Christmas Show Ever, Charlie Brown – Calico Mine Stage

We did brave the rain to witness the lighting of the Christmas tree in Calico Park:

Knott’s Merry Farm is a lot of fun. If you’ve ever been before, you know what I’m talking about. If you’ve never gone before, you need to check it out at least once. I think you’ll like it. Knott’s Merry Farm is open every day from now through January 8th, except Christmas Day, which is the only day the park is closed. Hours vary by day, so be sure to check the Knott’s web site for the day you want to go.
