Justice League: Battle for Metropolis Construction Update #4

By on 01/16/2017

During the past couple of weeks, since my last Justice League: Battle for Metropolis construction update at Six Flags Magic Mountain, things have really kicked into high gear. They’re just now starting the more visible work, so we should see fast progress from here on out. These photos were taken on Monday, January 16th.

Six Flags Magic Mountain tweeted out the following photo this morning, commenting that JL:BFM has finally gone vertical:

Since I was already in the park, I decided to swing by the job site and see what was going on myself. When I got to that part of the park, I noticed they now have all of the former Movie District area and Waterfront Commissary blocked off with a construction fence. It basically extends from JB’s Smokehouse BBQ all the way down to Dare Devil Dive. This means that both Tidal Wave and The Riddler’s Revenge are now both closed until the grand opening of Metropolis, as well as all of those food locations:

The first thing I noticed is that they had a lot more steel up for the new show building than what was shown in the Six Flags tweet from just an hour earlier:

You can also see a lot of steel on the ground, waiting to go up:

Even though today was a US holiday, work was being done:

This is from ground level, looking back the other direction:

A sign on the midway was advertising a “new, must-do culinary experience“:

Almost all of the signage has been removed from the Go Fresh Café:

All of the signage has definitely been removed from the other food locations:

You can see new lumber already being cut, but not sure for what:

All of the fixtures are being removed from the building:

Some of the building has been removed. The section from the main building to the gazebo, which used to block the view of the old action theater, is now gone. My understanding is that this is going to be where the new beer garden is going to be located:

All of the trees in this area have been cut down:

So far, it doesn’t look like the exterior of JB’s Smokehouse BBQ has been touched. However, it will eventually be changed, as it doesn’t fit with the new theme of the area:

I’m very happy to see that all of the old tables from outside of JB’s have been destroyed. They were in bad shape and this means that we won’t see Six Flags try and repurpose them somewhere else. You can also see on the far right that the concrete has been removed where all those palm trees used to be that they took out several weeks ago:

The rock climbing wall is officially gone:

All of the trees, plants, and bushes that used to surround the rock wall are also gone:

The large planter island that marked the entrance to The Movie District is also gone:

I’m not sure if this has something to do with the Metropolis makeover, or if they just decided to do it while they working in the area, but the massive tree and all of the plants that were in front of Gold Rusher have been removed. The planter is still there (for now), so we’ll keep an eye on it and see what happens:

Similar to above, the two large trees in front of Scrambler have also been cut down:

As I was walking off of X2 this morning, I noticed a massive crane parked behind Viper. I’ve only seen them rent this guy when installing heavy steel for a new roller coaster, or when a large train valleys and needs to be pulled up the next hill, like on X2. Since neither of these seem to be happening right now, and the JL:BFM job doesn’t appear to need such a heavy duty piece of equipment, I’m not exactly sure what this is being used for, but I thought I’d call it out:

Tatsu is in the process of getting a new lift chain. That’s what the crane is for.

How long does this usually take to replace a chain ? So no Tatsu, no Riddlers for awhile. Anything else? Last weekend when I was there Superman was down, is that running again. Hopefully I will get a few hours in this Sunday. Thanks everyone

Wow! That’s just amazing what they’ve done, and undone. I’m so happy to see this area get some TLC. Wish Tidal Wave would of been part of this refurbished area.. It’s going to bug me that it being between Metropolis and DC Universe it will be so out of place.

If they had rebranded it to Aquaman, problem solved. At least they’re moving the entrance to the front, so it’s not part of Metropolis.

        Ah, now that’s an idea!

I am really starting to get upset about them consistently removing full mature trees in this park. LEAVE THE TREES ALONE.

“They were in bad shape and this means that we won’t see Six Flags try and repurpose them somewhere else.”

Maybe in the Apocalypse line, though. 😉

They’re making great progress on this ride. I have a feeling that it will become a top attraction at the park. Some new eating spots will be nice, too. But they’d better not turn JB’s into another sports bar or similar venue.

I agree with The other Steve, so many trees removed. It seems so obvious just to call tidal wave Aquaman, why wouldn’t they do this? Will JBs smokehouse still be BBQ ? I like the tri-tip. I was just there last week and passed on Riddlers, now I wish I would have jumped on it, especially since at the time I was there there is usually never a line. Thanks for the updates, can’t wait to start seein some real progress.
