Busch Gardens Tampa Opening Tallest, Fastest Hybrid Roller Coaster in North America

By on 03/01/2019

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay announced today that construction has started on a NEW hybrid coaster arriving in 2020. They are converting their old wooden roller coaster, Gwazi. It was originally built by Great Coasters International in 1999, but closed in 2015 after 16 years of service. When it re-opens next year, the ride will become North America’s tallest hybrid, and the fastest, steepest hybrid coaster in the world.

The park’s ninth roller coaster, Tigris, is also currently under construction and is due to open later this year. These latest thrill ride additions are great news for roller coaster enthusiasts.

“This cadence of back-to-back new attractions is unprecedented for our park, and continues our legacy as Florida’s thrill ride leader.”

Stewart Clark, President of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Adventure Island

Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, the newest addition at Busch Gardens will be a wood and steel hybrid coaster design, featuring a maximum height of more than 200 feet tall. The ride will feature all-new thrill elements, as well as restored elements of Gwazi.
