Wonderful Pistachios is sponsoring a Get Countin’ and Win contest at Six Flags Magic Mountain. If you’ve never visited Pistachio Park inside Magic Mountain, now you have one more reason to do so. Inside the park, Wonderful Pistachios has placed a giant plexiglass container full of pistachios. All you have to do is guess how many pistachios are inside of it and you could win a great prize! Sounds easy, right?
While waiting for the main gate to open this morning at Six Flags Magic Mountain, the Six Flags employees who were entertaining the crowd mentioned that there was a special contest over at Pistachio Park. As soon as the gate opened, I decided to check it out. As I was walking through the park, I started to see new banners for Pistachio Park:

As I got closer, I saw the first sign advertising the contest:

Pistachio Park, hosted by Wonderful Pistachios, is a very peaceful and serene place to sit and relax in the shadow of the Buccaneer:

As soon as you enter the park, you see it. A giant container full of pistachios. The instructions on how to play are posted on either side of the display, as well as some of the prizes. In addition to a grand prize consisting of $1,000 cash, six (6) 2013 Six Flags Season Passes, and a one year supply of pistachios, there are also numerous daily prizes awarded, including snack vouchers, pistachios, and Six Flags Magic Mountain exit passes:

All you have to do is guess how many pistachios are in this container:

I’m guessing the container is roughly 2′ x 2′ x 4′ in size, and it’s completely full. They give you a number to text in your guess. If you don’t have a cell phone, or texting capabilities, you can still play by going to Guest Relations and filling out a form. You can find all the details and official rules on the Wonderful Pistachios web site, located here.
There is some fun trivia about pistachios around the perimeter of the park, including nutritional and historical information:

There are several picnic tables where you can sit and relax in the shade. This is also a great place to bring some food and enjoy a meal:

Of course, all that wonderful shade is provided by the Wonderful Pistachios trees:

Before I left the area, I decided to throw my hat into the ring. I followed the instructions and sent them a text:

After I replied with my official guess (no, I’m not telling you), I received the following:

Yay, I won one of the daily prizes!! I headed over to Guest Relations to claim my prize. After he verified the code on my text, he handed me two bags of Wonderful Pistachios:

The contest started on Wednesday, August 17th and runs through August 28th. As long as you’re in the park, head on over and take a guess. It only takes a minute and you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose.

hmmm a contest that actually has instant results. hats off to you wonderful pistachios!
My thoughts exactly! I love seeing companies embrace technology and use it in new and exciting ways. Sadly, I still see too many similar contests where you need to write down your guess and submit it in a ballot box. Too complicated and so last decade.
Thats the kind of advertising Im sure most actually want to see.
Thanks for the photos. They’re fitting views of my favorite area of the park, and a proper finale to my nine years in Santa Clarita.
WOW! Had no idea it was that nice. Great spot to relax and escape the sun. And also, what a great and fun idea guessing the pistachios in the box. My nephew will love it!!
Thanks Kurt!!
I like the Pistachio Park idea and think that maybe a similar park on the other side of the mountain would be a good idea. There are quite a few little pockets of land that could be used for such a thing. Since Magic Mountain is so big, a couple (or three) rest areas like this would be a good idea. During my last visit, I noticed that there aren’t many benches in the park, which forces people to sit on walls or the ground.
Hey Kurt,
I was wondering if Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom was on your ride profile list. The first time I rode it, I was freaking out!!!!!
It will be. I don’t like to post ride profiles so close to a ride’s opening because my media day coverage is much of the same information.
So i ended up going to six flags today and taking another individual because of the free friend pass i did try the pistachios contest and i would assume its a winner everytime, at least for small prizes i was awarded a snack voucher not exactly sure what that was and it was not too be i guess they had ran out, so instead they gave me two exit passes for a one time use either on my choice of Goliath, Colossus, or Scream.
